Langsfeld (WB9TZC)\u00a0has been appointed as the new Central Territory SATERN\u00a0Coordinator by Territorial Disaster Coordinator Kevin Ellers.<br \/>\nLangsfeld holds an FCC Extra Class Amateur Radio License.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Ellers also appointed former Central Territory\u00a0SATERN Coordinator Bill Shillington (W9ZCL) and Kenneth\u00a0Panczyk (W9KMP) as Assistant Territorial SATERN\u00a0Coordinators. Maj. Michele Heaver (KC8NAI) has been\u00a0assigned as the staff liaison to SATERN and \u201cto work closely\u00a0with Bob. She will be scheduling the Territory\u2019s first SATERN\u00a0strategic conference call soon. Ellers said, \u201cIt is my goal to\u00a0strategically advance the SATERN program in 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Langsfeld says, \u201cI became interested in radio as a teen, starting\u00a0out with a citizen\u2019s band radio and a kit-built shortwave radio.\u00a0Soon I wanted more. I attended a ham radio class. Shortly<br \/>\nafterwards, in the 1970\u2019s, he became an amateur radio operator\u00a0and immediately began to\u00a0concentrate on public service and\u00a0emergency communications. He\u00a0later became a paid, on call EMA<br \/>\nvolunteer and was soon promoted\u00a0to Team Leader. For the past five\u00a0(5) years Bob has been the paid\u00a0EMA Coordinator for the Village\u00a0of Hoffman Estates, Illinois,\u00a0where Central Territory<br \/>\nHeadquarters is located. He\u00a0helped the village EMA office earn its State of Illinois\u00a0accreditation with a program that included different units for\u00a0volunteers, paid on call responders, public education, ground\u00a0search teams , CERT and AUXCOMM. Langsfeld also served\u00a0as the Emergency Communications Chairman with the\u00a0Schaumburg Amateur Radio Club and the local ARRL ARES<br \/>\nEmergency Coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>Langsfeld has just recently retired from his positions with both\u00a0locall EMA and the Schaumburg Amateur Radio Club and has\u00a0become involved with The Salvation Army and SATERN in his\u00a0retirement<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Central THQ (10\/17\/2018) \u2013 Robert E.
