The Metro/Douglas County Amateur Radio Emergency Service ® (MDARES ) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service. MDARES members are active in SKYWARN for the Metro/Douglas County. The group also provides volunteers to the National Weather Service to provide amateur radio communications to other spotter groups across their 38 County Warning Area.

MDARES members also provide communications support to Douglas County Emergency Management, Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross,  Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network (SATERN) and The Omaha Metropolitan Medical Response System.
